Synonym: Beeswax, Cera Flava, pure beeswax
For use in medicine, pharmacy and high-quality natural cosmetics.
With its special consistency, pure beeswax (pharmaceutical) is an exceptional material compared to other waxes or wax-like products. In addition to its use in pharmacy and medicine, beeswax (cera flava) is often the basis of high-quality natural cosmetics and is popular as an ingredient in homemade ointments and creams due to its high antibacterial effect, among other things. It can also be processed very well on a small manufacturing scale. When used, pure beeswax is said to have a high skin-protecting effect, as it ensures particularly long-lasting skin moisture. Beeswax (pharmaceutical) also contains vitamins A and C and can be used as a food additive E901. In addition, one of the most important consumers is the beekeeping industry itself, as beeswax is necessarily required within the honey production cycles. Beeswax is regularly used there for the production of so-called middle walls.

Beeswax consists mainly of esters, a cleavage product of long-chain fatty alcohols and organic acids and naturally also of hydrocarbons. Natural, unbleached beeswax, which has various shades of yellow depending on its origin, also shows a characteristic aroma pattern that allows conclusions to be drawn about the bee itself. These components make up several percent of the total mass and indicate the origin and breed of bee. And there are far more than 20,000 of these species worldwide. However, humans only use nine different bee species as honey or beeswax producers.
