    Approved as food additive E 330. For cosmetics, food and technical applications.                

    Application

    The most abundant natural acid is often used in food or cosmetics as an acidity regulator and for the production of stable suspensions due to its odorless nature. It is approved as E 330 in the European Union[A1] . In addition, citric acid is popular as a descaling agent and for other cleaning processes (detergent additive). In the technical field, citric acid is often used for passivation of metals.

    Precautions

    Wash hands and other exposed body parts with mild soap and water before eating, drinking or smoking and when leaving the workplace. Provide process area with good ventilation to prevent formation of vapors.

    Citric acid, like other organic acids, is largely produced by fermentation. In the main, highly concentrated glucose (for example[A1] ) is fermented by certain bacterial strains for this purpose.
