What is palm oil?

Palm oil is a vegetable oil obtained from the fruit or pulp of the oil palm. It consists of 50% saturated fats. 

How is palm oil produced?

The crude palm oil is obtained by sterilizing and pressing the pulp of the palm fruit. Initially, it is still orange-yellow to brownish red due to its high carotene content. The refining process removes the carotene, leaving the light shade.

Where is palm oil used?

In Asia and parts of Africa in particular, palm oil is used as an edible oil for cooking, frying and deep-frying thanks to its excellent heat and oxidation stability. It also plays a major role internationally in the production of baked goods, margarine and confectionery.  Palm oil and its derivatives play an important role in various formulations for the cosmetics industry and detergent production. In the technical field, it is the basis for the production  of numerous oleochemical products, which are used, for example, in lubricants or candles.

Where is palm oil grown?

The largest palm oil producers include Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Colombia.
