For use in the chemical-technical sector.
Application
2-Ethylhexanol (2-EH for short) as a fully synthetic, branched primary alcohol is mainly used as an intermediate. It is predominantly further processed into plastic additives such as diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) or diethylhexyl adipate (DEHA), which is also used as a plasticizer in PVC. Equally common is the use of 2-ethylhexanol as a nonionic surfactant after reaction with ethylene oxide.
Precautions
Wash hands and other exposed body parts with mild soap and water before eating, drinking or smoking and when leaving the workplace. Provide process area with good ventilation to prevent formation of vapors. Do not expose to open flames. Do not smoke. Use only non-sparking tools. Avoid inhalation of dust/fume/gas/mist/vapor/aerosol. Use only outdoors or in well-ventilated areas. Wash hands, forearms and face thoroughly after use.
Hazard statements

Precautionary statements
P302+P352 - IF ON SKIN: Wash with plenty of soap and water
P304+P340 - IF INHALED: Remove person to fresh air and ensure unobstructed breathing.
P312 - If you feel unwell, call a doctor, POISON CENTER
P305+P351+P338 - IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove any contact lenses if possible. Continue to rinse.
Further information
2-Ethylhexanol is obtained during petroleum fractionation (steam cracking). It is therefore a pure petroleum derivative. In addition to the production of phthalates, it is also used to produce other esters.
Storage
Store only in the original container in a cool, well-ventilated area. Keep container closed when not in use. Avoid direct sunlight.
