How is organic lamp oil produced?
Organic lamp oil usually consists of vegetable oil methyl esters, a process chemical of methyl esters, which can typically consist of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids.
In transesterification plants, methanol is added to rapeseed oil during the process, causing a catalytic reaction to take place. The resulting product also contains methanol, glycerine, catalysers, soaps and other components. Water-soluble substances are removed by washing processes with the addition of catalysts such as sulphuric or hydrochloric acid before the palm oil methyl ester is dried in vacuum dryers.
