Coconut fat
What is coconut oil?
Coconut fat is obtained from the flesh of the coconut. The fundamental difference between coconut fat and fractionated coconut oil is that it is no longer liquid at 24° C, but solid.
What is coconut oil used for?
Coconut fat is used as a baking, frying or deep-frying fat. It is used in the confectionery industry as a coating, in the pharmaceutical industry, in cosmetics and in technology.
What properties does the product have?
Coconut oil has a yellowish to white colour and is almost odourless. It consists almost exclusively of triglycerides. Minerals, amino acids and lactones make up a small proportion. However, the latter are removed during the refining process.
How is coconut oil produced?
The so-called copra (fruit pulp) from the coconut is crushed and then dried. It is then pressed out with the help of oil mills and further processed into oil.
