Application
Vegetable palmitic acid from chemiekontor.de is produced by saponification of palm oil. During the manufacturing process, the stearic acid is processed into a usable product in appropriate separation processes, such as hydrolysis and subsequent distillation. This is the saturated C-16 cut, which is subsequently used in many cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications (skin and body care, e.g. shaving foam). Palmitic acid is also used as a thickening agent in oil-based systems. Palmitic acid is authorised in the European Union as a food additive E570 (fatty acids) and can be used in food without restriction.
