Application
Mono-ethylene glycol, also known as ethane-1,2-diol, is a clear, colourless and almost odourless dihydric alcohol. In contrast to mono-propylene glycol, ethylene glycol is harmful to health even in small quantities and is therefore only suitable for use as a technical coolant or as a technical antifreeze. However, it is particularly suitable for this purpose, as it is absolutely frost-proof even at the lowest temperatures and is also highly compatible with materials. In particular, the use of a wide variety of metal alloys with mono-ethylene glycol - in contrast to other substances - can be regarded as uncritical. In addition to this main area of application, ethylene glycol is also used as a technical solvent and serves as the basis for the production of polyester fibres in large-scale chemical applications. By far the largest quantity, namely more than 45% of annual production, is processed into plastic in China. Due to the thermal conductivity of ethylene glycol, it is suitable as a heat transfer medium and is generally used as a mixture in the desired concentration for this purpose.

Und selbst wenn sich Mono-Propylenglycol und Ethylenglycol optisch und im Geschmack sehr gleichen, ist Ethylenglycol bei Einnahme weitaus giftiger. Eine Vergiftung ähnelt einer Methanolvergiftung und kann dabei mit schweren Gesundheitsschäden einhergehen oder sogar tödlich sein.
Storage
Nur im Originalbehälter an einem kühlen, gut gelüfteten Ort aufbewahren. Behälter verschlossen halten, wenn dieser nicht in Gebrauch ist. Direkte Sonneneinstrahlung meiden.
